Program Description:

Help PSM flow into next year with a flourish by joining us for our 3rd Annual Fundraiser on October 22 at 6:00 PM on Zoom. We’ll be hosting BJ Cummings as our keynote speaker to talk about her work documenting and recording the history of the Duwamish River, which can be found in her book “The River that Made Seattle: A Natural and Human History of the Duwamish.”

BJ Cummings (she/her) founded the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition and manages community engagement for the University of Washington’s Superfund Research Program. She was awarded the River Network’s national River Hero award for her work leading community-based clean up and restoration of the Duwamish River. Additionally, the Association for King County Historic Organizations awarded her the 2021 Virginia Marie Folkins Award for Publication.

We’ll also hear from Tremain Holloway, the new principal for Highline School District’s new Maritime High School. He’ll tell us about the innovative new school, about the partnerships it’s building across industry and underserved communities, and about how PSM and YMTA can help inspire and educate the students.

While you’re registering to attend, buy an extra raffle ticket to increase your chances of getting to go on a kayak tour with BJ on the Duwamish! Paddle past habitat restoration sites, view wildlife, and learn about the indigenous, immigrant and industrial history of the Duwamish River on this two-hour guided kayak tour. Special thanks to BJ and Alki Kayak Tours for making this happen!
