Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet

Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society presents Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet – Model Boats, a virtual exhibit of ten model boats from our museum collections. The intent of this exhibit is to showcase items not usually on display that have a story to tell about Puget Sound’s maritime history. The Mosquito Fleet was comprised of hundreds of private transport companies’ steamers and sternwheelers that worked the waterways of Puget Sound between 1830’s to 1930’s. Before roads, the area relied on these boats for transportation and commerce. Unpredictable and dangerous, the ferry system battled weather, water conditions and boiler accidents to connect communities. These ten ship models from PSMHS represent a few of the ships in our collection.
