Are you looking for a great opportunity to share your love of maritime, history, or maritime history? We’ve got lots of volunteer opportunities for you!
At Puget Sound Maritime we have a wide range of volunteer functions, so no matter what you like to do we can find a project that fits! Browse the projects below to see if anything strikes your interest, then email us to find out how you can join the crew.
Our Projects:
Heritage – These projects often involve working with artifacts (doing photography and cleaning), archives (cataloging and scanning), and photographs (digitizing). Heritage projects are best for those who have computer and database experience.
Education and Outreach – We love attending festivals, and events with our crafts and educational activities, but we always need help staffing our tables. Often this consists of answering questions about PSM, describing the activity at hand, and helping parents and children connect through our activity. If you are a people person and like working with children and families, this is a great position for you! You can also volunteer to be a Maritime Gallery docent at MOHAI, acting as an ambassador for PSM and interpreting the Maritime Gallery for visitors.
Research – If you like the idea of working with our collections, but prefer doing research to cataloging, we need volunteers to help answer the inquiries sent to us about historic photographs and the contents of our archives. This is great for those who love to hunt for answers and explore our collection.
Special skills? Running Puget Sound Maritime relies on all kinds of special knowledge and skills provided by volunteers. Are you a pro at website maintenance? Do you have the network to recruit corporate partners or solicit companies to advertise in The Sea Chest? There is no shortage of specialty tasks needed to keep PSM running.
If nothing here sounds like a match, let us know what you’re interested in and, chances are, we’ll find something that works for you!
