Seattle’s Vigor Shipyards is deep in shipbuilding’s hottest race
and they are in it to win. The victor of the battle will come away
with an 8-billion dollar contract to build 25 U.S. Coast Guard
Offshore Patrol Cutters.
PSMHS board member and Vigor staff
member U.S.C.G. Rear Admiral (Ret.) John Lockwood will present
Vigor’s idea to propose a uniquely designed ship to the Coast Guard
that is considered to be the next generation military vessel. |

Admiral Lockwood is closely connected to our area, having served as
Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard’s 13th District from
1993 to 1996. The 13th District covers Washington,
Oregon, Idaho and Montana. After commanding a number of posts
following his assignment here, John and his wife Cyndee retired in
the Northwest. |
